Detection of Earthquakes through a STratospheric Infrasound studY
DESTINY, a BEXUS 28 Balloon Experiment
In this project, we mounted barometric sensors on a stratospheric balloon provided by the Swedish National Space Agency as part of the REXUS/BEXUS programme. to detect low-frequency seismic waves propagating through the stratosphere. By measuring pressure variations at high altitudes, we aimed to explore the feasibility of using atmospheric sensing as a tool for remote seismic monitoring. This study served as a proof of concept for detecting seismic activity from the stratosphere, with potential applications for planetary exploration, particularly in studying the seismic activity of Venus, where traditional ground-based seismology is not feasible.
